The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and Innovate UK is to invest up to £20 million per project in collaborative research and development funding to support the development of low carbon, low emission automotive propulsion technologies.

Projects must demonstrate technologies that:
  • Deliver significant reductions in vehicle CO2 or other emissions compared to current best-in-class technologies
  • Align with Automotive Council Technology Group Roadmaps with respect to the four sticky technologies in the APC remit
  • Develop the UK's supply chain in the field of low carbon vehicle technology

Projects must be collaborative and business-led and include a vehicle manufacturer or a tier 1 supplier and an SME partner.

Overall, each project will attract no more than 50% public funding of the total eligible project costs.

We expect total eligible project costs to be between £5m and £40m, and projects are expected to last between 18 and 42 months. We may consider a project out of this range. However, such projects should be discussed with the APC in advance of submission.

All applications for this competition will be managed by Innovate UK.

This is a single-stage competition that opens for applicants on 11th January 2016. Applicants must first register with Innovate UK by noon on 23rd March 2016 and the deadline for submission of full applications is at noon on 30th March 2016. There will be a briefing webinar on 18th January.
