Phosphorus and Priority Substances

Summary

Highlands and Islands Enterprise, one of Scotland's two enterprise agencies, supported by Innovate UK are launching a new £800K (inc VAT) competition to develop new and innovative solutions to recover phosphorus and/or priority substances from the water environment, which, if appropriate, can be used for beneficial use.

Funding for this competition is being provided from two additional public sector sources including the Scottish Government's Water Industry Team and, Zero Waste Scotland.  A steering group is overseeing the project and has representatives from other organisations with an interest in the work, including Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish Water and Scottish Enterprise.  This work forms part of a wider of programme of work to support and develop green growth in Scotland and a circular economy.

A total of up to £400k (inc VAT) is allocated to phase 1 of the competition and it is anticipated that the feasibility study contracts will be in the region of up to £40k (inc VAT) per project.

On successful completion of the feasibility study a total of up to £400k (inc VAT) is allocated to Phase 2  of the competition for prototype development and it is anticipated that four Phase 2 contracts will be in the region of up to £100k (inc VAT).
