What’s inside that building?

Ministry of Defence logo£650,000 of funding is available for this Phase 1 competition.
The Ministry of Defence's (MOD) Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) proves the value of novel, high-risk, high-potential-benefit research sourced from the broadest possible range of science and technology providers, including academia and small companies, to enable development of cost-effective capability advantage for UK Armed Forces and national security.
This CDE themed competition seeks to address the challenge of providing information about the layout and situation inside a building using novel techniques, remotely.
The solutions will be innovative technologies and methods of gathering information that contributes to overall awareness, and may include:
  • detecting concealed manufacturing activity
  • finding out about the internal structure of a building in preparation for entry (including walls, furniture and electrical equipment)
  • identifying illegal storage activities
  • working out the number of people in a building and what they are doing
  • detecting people who are hiding or being held against their will
  • supporting disaster relief, ie seeing under collapsed buildings
This competition will be briefed at the CDE Innovation Network event on 9 July 2015 in London and at a webinar on 16 July 2015.
This competition closes on Thursday 10 September 2015 at 5pm. Proposals must be submitted through the CDE online portal.
